A recent report says that the Department of Transportation, Philippines, announced that Bicol International Airport (BIA) will soon open. DOTr-PH, a government agency announced and confirmed on their Facebook page.
DOTr-PH said that the construction is now 62.042% completed and is aimed to be fully operational this coming July 2020.
Once the Bicol International Airport (BIA), in Daraga Town, becomes operational, then it can serve and accommodate up to 2 million passengers annually.
Moreover, a bonus to all passengers that once this acclaimed “MOST SCENIC GATEWAY” of the country, they’ll have a good view of the perfect cone Mayon volcano.
The construction of Bicol International Airport began more than 11 years ago (2008). But after the initial construction of the runway and terminal building, it stopped. And was later found out that it was due to a failed bidding.
“Reputable construction companies won the bidding for the terminal building phase as early as January 2015. However, eight months later, we learned that said bidder was disqualified on flimsy grounds during the post-qualification process,”– Gov. Joey S. Salceda (Albay)
Good thing that the construction commenced and this is a piece of good news to Philippine’s tourism. More and more aircraft passengers will soon enjoy a direct flight to Albay.
